How to manage an infectious illness at Berghutte - 22 July 2022
Feeling unwell? If you develop even mild symptoms of any infectious illness such as COVID-19, cold, influenza, diarrhoea, nausea or vomiting whilst staying at the Lodge you should immediately:
• Self-isolate by remaining in your bedroom with the door closed.
• Call the Managers on 0404 331 837 to advise you are unwell.
• Conduct a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT)* if you have COVID-19 symptoms (see NSW Health website).
• Make plans to vacate the Lodge as soon as possible.
• Check with the Managers as you may be eligible for a refund for part of your booking if you can provide a medical certificate or evidence of a positive COVID-19 test (refer to Terms and Conditions of Booking).
I’ve tested positive to COVID-19. What do I do?
• Contact the Managers immediately on 0404 331 837.
• Self-isolate in your bedroom with the door closed.
• Make arrangements to leave the Lodge as soon as possible, eg if you become unwell in the evening, leave first thing the next morning.
• If you are too unwell to travel home, contact the Managers who may be able support you in finding alternative accommodation.
• Only leave your room in case of emergency or if you have the prior approval of the Lodge Managers. If you leave your room, you must wash or sanitise your hands, wear disposable gloves and a clean and disposable face mask that covers your nose and mouth** and physically distance yourself from others.
• If necessary, the Managers may assist in packing up your belongings located outside of your room or let you know a suitable time for you to do this.
• Practice good hand hygiene by regularly washing your hands with soap and water or hand sanitiser.
• Any deliveries are to be left outside your closed door. Do not open the door until the delivery person has left, the corridor is empty and you are wearing a face mask that covers your nose and mouth.
• Wear a face mask in your room if you have family/friends staying in the same room.
• Open windows if possible/safe to maximise fresh air and natural ventilation.
• If possible, the Managers may be able to relocate family / friends to another room.
• Register your positive test on the Service NSW website or call 13 77 88 so you can be linked to important health care support and advice based on your COVID-19 risk.
• If you need medical advice, you should call your GP, the NSW Health Flu and COVID-19 Care at Home Support Line on 1800 960 933 or healthdirect 24/7 on 1800 022 222. If symptoms become severe call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
What if I am a household or close/high risk contact of a COVID case?
Family and friends staying in the same room or anyone who may be considered a “close contact /high risk” of a COVID case are to:
• TEST - conduct DAILY RATs whilst at the Lodge; this is a Berghutte requirement and photo of the test result must be sent to the Lodge Manager daily via SMS on 0404 331 837.
• MASKS - wear a face mask in all communal areas of the Lodge; this is both a Berghutte and a current public health order requirement for close contacts aged 12 years and over.
• DISTANCE - stay 1.5 metres away from other people and sit separately from others when eating and drinking in communal areas.
• REVIEW - Information for people exposed to COVID-19 on NSW Health website.
• If a close contact has recovered from COVID-19 in the past four weeks they are exempt from the above. What should I do when travelling home or to alternative accommodation? The current NSW public health order allows for people to travel home via private vehicle not public transport. When travelling home or to alternative accommodation you should (as per NSW Health advice):
• Map the most direct route and identify safe rest break areas before you leave.
• Wear a face mask if/when you need to take a break.
• When travelling in a vehicle with others, you should sit in the back seat with the windows open (preferably in the passenger rear left seat) if you are not driving.
• Everyone in the car should wear a face mask that covers the nose and mouth at all times.
• Sanitise your hands before you get into the vehicle. Questions? Contact the Managers or NSW Health Isolation Support Line 1800 942 553. Notes /
